Obituary Notice- Mary L. Zanghi

HAMBURG:  Mary L. Zanghi, 91, of Southwestern Blvd, Hamburg, NY, formerly of University Park & Sahle Place, died Tuesday, June 11th, at the Absolut at Orchard Park.  She was born in Dunkirk, on July 21, 1921, the daughter of the late James and Maria C. (Gioffre) Lombardo.

Mrs. Zanghi was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1939, worked as a Clerk for the former Sidey’s Dept. Store Dunkirk, for 8 years and previously worked as a Sample Maker in the dress industry in Chicago, IL for 14 years.  She was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Orchard Park, was also a former member of St. Anthony’s RC Church, Fredonia and the Chadwick Bay Garden Club.  Mrs. Zanghi enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, ceramics and the love of being a seamstress.

Survivors include a daughter, Melanie (Edward) Monacelli, of Hamburg and a son, Jay (Dawn) Zanghi, of Albany.  Also surviving are 2 grandchildren Brian (Erin) Monacelli & Eric (Sarah) Monacelli, 1 great granddaughter Alexa Monacelli and several nieces & nephews.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Joseph J. Zanghi, Jr., whom she married Sept. 6, 1943 in Holy Trinity Church, Dunkirk and who died March 30, 2011, by 3 brothers Philip, Peter & Samuel Lombardo, by 3 sisters Martha Ianello, Dorothy Spoto & Sara DeTolla and by an infant sister.

There will be no visitation observed.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, 3148 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, on Friday July 5th, at 10 o’clock, with Rev. Adolph Kowalezyk, pastor officiating.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Fredonia.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made either to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to The Center For Hospice & Palliative Care, 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227.  Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.

    Mary graduated from the Gorham Normal School in 1937 and went on to earn a B.S.
