FORESTVILLE: Ruth E. Towne, 83, of Forestville, passed away Friday, January 12th, 2024 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a brief illness. She was born in Gowanda on December 22, 1940, the daughter of the late Walter and Minerva (Wells) McIntyre.
Ruth was a graduate of Gowanda High School, Class of 1958 and Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo. She worked for the former George Burkland Insurance Company.
Ruth was a member of the John Deere Tractor Club and was a former 4-H leader and cake decorator. She enjoyed antique tractors, making crafts, going to many craft shows loved riding mopeds and enjoyed attending her granddaughters events.
Survivors include two daughters, Kamie (Paul Gadra) Fields, of Dunkirk; Becky (Mark) Ostrye, of Forestville; and a sister, Barbara (Robert) King, of Hamburg. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Sylvia Towne of Fredonia, two grandchildren- Lacey (A.J) Mihalko and Brooke (Nick Zielinski) Ostrye and a niece. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Jerry W. Towne whom she married on November 4, 1961 in Gowanda and who died December 5, 2023.
Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Wednesday morning (Jan. 17th) from 10:30 AM to 12 noon from where Funeral Services will follow at 12 noon with Rev. David Watson, pastor of Sheridan United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Villenova Cemetery, Town of Villenova.
