Obituary Notice- Dorothy E. Winterberger

FORESTVILLE:  Dorothy E. Winterberger, 91, of Rt. 39, Forestville, died Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 at the Chautauqua County Home, Dunkirk, following a lengthy illness.  She was born in Cassadaga on March 26, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Ottile (Hahn) O’Connor.  Mrs. Winterberger was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School, Class of 1940, which was the first class to graduate from the new high school.  She was a member of the former St. John Bosco RC Church, Sheridan, where she taught religion classes, enjoyed music, playing piano for many individuals & churches in Cassadaga, was an excellent cook, liked working with plastic canvas and enjoyed traveling.  Mrs. Winterberger went on memorable trips to Canada, Ireland & Alaska.

Survivors include her husband Robert E. “Bib” Winterberger of Forestville, whom she married October 11, 1945, in Dunkirk, four daughters, Janet (Ted) Gaylord, of Saranac Lake, NY, Celeste Winterberger, of Raleigh, NC, Elyse Brown, of Norfolk, VA, Heidi Payne, of Fredonia and a son, Shawn (Connie) Winterberger, of Raleigh, NC.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by 2 daughters, Maureen Carroll, Michele Winterberger, 2 brothers, John & Gustav O’ Connor and by 2 sisters, Jennette Balzer, Elsie Damon.

Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm, from where Prayer Services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville, at 10 o’clock, with Rev. Daniel F. Fiebelkorn, pastor officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fredonia.
