FORESTVILLE: Alice M. McCarthy, 99, of Chestnut Street, Forestville, died Thursday, May 8, 2025 at her residence, with her family by her side. She was born in Buffalo on January 12, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Laughlin) Wouk.
Alice was a graduate of the former Kensington High School in Buffalo, Class of 1944 and worked part-time as a Secretary for M&T Bank in Buffalo before moving to Forestville. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and previously a choir member at St. James Parish in Buffalo. Alice loved the opera, theater, classical music, playing the piano, cooking & baking, gardening and ceramics. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include four daughters Nadine McCarthy, of Forestville, Eileen (Bernard) Feldmann, of Silver Creek, Nancy McCarthy of Silver Creek, Nora (Scott) Gilman, of Forestville, four sons Michael (Lydia) McCarthy, of Lockport, Sean McCarthy, of Derby, Colin (Francine) McCarthy, of Williamsville, Brian (Nadine) McCarthy, of Tonawanda, and daughter-in-law Yvonne McCarthy of Silver Creek. Also surviving are twenty-five grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and her “adopted son” Charlie (Debbie) Burgio of West Seneca. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Gerald “Bud” S. McCarthy, whom she married on July 1, 1950 in St. James Parish, Buffalo and who died November 5, 2008, a son Kevin McCarthy, infant brother William Wouk, brother Joseph Wouk, who died May 13, 2005 and two granddaughters- Lauren & Theresa Gilman.
Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM from where Prayer Services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from Faith Community Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, at 10 o’clock with Rev. Daniel Fiebelkorn officiating. Interment will follow in in Forestville Cemetery.
