FORESTVILLE: Elmer N. “Casey” Crowell, 96, of Prospect Road, Forestville, passed away Monday, May 22nd, 2023 at Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab Center, Dunkirk, following a short illness. He was born in the Town of Hanover on August 31, 1926, the son of the late G. Leigh and Clara (Naegle) Crowell.
Elmer was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1944 and served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt during WW II. He worked as a Pressman for the former Great Lakes Color Printing Dunkirk., for 35 yrs. retiring on October 1, 1985. He owned the former Elmer’s Gun Shop in Forestville for 30 years, was Deputy Town Clerk for selling sporting licenses and provided hunter training instruction for 38 years. He was also a part-time truck driver for the late Richard Walker for 10 years.
Casey was a former member of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville, a life member of Hamburg American Legion #527, life member & past commander of Cherry Creek VFW Post #2522, life member of the NRA, and life member of Forestville Fire Department, where he was fire police captain. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing, solving world problems with “the beast” and his annual trip to the Adirondack’s for 19 years.
Survivors include his “tolerant & patient” loving companion Jackie Coon, of Forestville, a daughter, Janet (Karl) Jacob, of National City, MI;
three step daughters, Wendy (Kevin) Corkwell, Shelley Coon, Lucinda (Terry) Griswold, two other children and sister in laws Judy Crowell of New Orleans, LA and Molly Meadows. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Erin Dee, Drs. Matthew (Danielle) Dean, Aaren Waterman, Tyler Corkwell and Tori Meacham (Dan Hunt, Sr.) five great grandchildren; Jolie & Adeline, Madison, Dan Jr. & Ivy. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a child, two brothers Rev. Ralph Crowell and Ret. Colonel Arthur Crowell, brother in law Walter “Corky” Meadows and brother in law & sister in law James & Mary Harrington.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 15th at 12 noon from Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville. Visitation will be from 11am-12pm and attendees are requested to wear Red, White & Blue to honor Casey.
