FORESTVILLE: Lester H. Manning, 97, of Overhiser Road, Forestville, passed away Monday, May 1st, 2023 at his residence. He was born in North East, PA on October 19, 1925, the son of the late Marion L. and Erma (Huer) Manning.
Lester was a graduate of Silver Creek Central School, Class of 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he was a Rifleman and a Parachutist. He worked as a Waste Water Superintendent for the Town of Hanover Silver Creek, for 22 years. Mr. Manning started working for the Town of Hanover in charge of the Water Department and was a Zoning Officer.
He was the oldest living member of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville, a member of Silver Lodge F&AM #757, the former Silver Chapter Order of Eastern Star Chapter #288, Forestville Chapter Order of Eastern Star #247, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Silver Creek & was Warden and was a past member of Irving & Hanover Center Fire Departments. Lester enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his six children; Larry (Cindy), David (Rebecca), Michael, Gregory, Lou Anne & Carol. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Roslyn (Cook) Manning, whom he married on January 14, 1950 in the First United Church, Silver Creek and who died January 4, 2019, three sons, Jeffrey Mark, Louis John & Dennis Paul Manning, a sister Shirley Sanderson, and four brothers Donald, Richard, Joseph & Gerald Manning.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 9th at 10 o’clock from St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Lake Street, Silver Creek, with Rev. Helen Sam officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover, where Military services will be conducted by members of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville.
