DUNKIRK: Walter R. Waligora, 88, a resident of Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab, Dunkirk, formerly of Prospect Road, Forestville, died Sunday, September 18th, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Buffalo on October 6, 1933, the son of the late Henry and Mary (Noworyta) Waligora, Sr.
He was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1951 and was a dairy farmer owning & operating Ball Hill Farms, Inc., Forestville, from March 1939 to May 2005.
Walter was a member of Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Rose of Lima Church, Forestville, where he was minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Sacristan, Altar Server, in the choir and a member of the former Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the former Fire of His Love Prayer Group, Forestville, a charter member, since 1962, of Msgr. Edmund J. O’Connor Knights of Columbus Council #5356, Silver Creek, where he was a past Grand Knight, and became Financial Secretary in 1982. Walter was a member of Cardinal Mindszenty Assembly #727, since 1962, was a Past Faithful Navigator, a Faithful Scribe member of the 4th Degree Color Corp. #927, since 1964, a former District Deputy of the 76th District of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the former Northern Chautauqua Philatelic Society (stamp collector), a member of the First Ward Falcon Club and the Kosciuszko Club, both of Dunkirk, Secretary/Treasurer of the Forestville Cemetery Association for many years, a former member of the Forestville Central School Board in the 1980’s, an avid dancer of Polish music, an RSVP & Hospice volunteer and was a very active volunteer with the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry, Forestville.
Survivors include a brother, Robert (Jackie) Waligora, of Florida, several nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews and a great-great-great niece. Besides his parents he was predeceased by eight sisters Genevieve Waligora, Lottie Waligora, Julia Gajewski, Emily Lodyga, Jane Waligora, Mary Press, Frances Griffith, Rose Troutman and by three brothers Henry Waligora, Jr., Bronislaus Waligora and Casimer “Casey” Waligora.
Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Thursday from 4-7 PM, from where Prayer Services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Rose of Lima Church, Center Street, Forestville, with Rev. Daniel Fiebelkorn officiating. Interment will follow in Forestville Cemetery.
