Obituary Notice- Carl H. Smith

DUNKIRK:  Carl H. Smith, 83, of Williams Street Dunkirk, NY, formerly of Arkwright, died Monday, March 12th, at Brooks Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.  He was born in Silver Creek, on May 20, 1928, the son of the late Carl H. Smith and Evelyn (Olrogg) Smith Fairbanks.

He worked as a Truck Driver for the former L.G. Hall Construction, Forestville, for 3 years and he previously worked for the former Allegheny Ludlum Steel and the former Al-Tech Specialty Steel Corporation, Dunkirk for 35 years as a Blacksmith and a Grinder in the Mill, worked for the former S&S Mobile Homes, the Town of Arkwright and the Town of Villenova.  Mr. Smith was a past member of the former IOOF Lodge, Hamlet and former member of the Steelworker’s Union.  He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood and his family.

Survivors include his wife Beverly A. (White) Smith, of Dunkirk, whom he married December 16, 1950, in the Fredonia United Methodist Church, a son, Kimberly Smith, of Dunkirk, a half sister, Sally (Earl) Congdon and a half brother, Douglas (Linda) Fairbanks, both of Forestville.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Kristee Pleszewski, Mrs. Tony (Amy) Gavazzi, Kellie Smith & Brett Michael St. George.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son Chad A. Smith, who died Sept. 15, 1995 and by a daughter Lynda Pleszewski, who died March 3, 2009 and by two half brothers Gary & Bruce Fairbanks.

There will be no visitation observed.  Memorial Services will be held from Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, on Sunday, May 20th, 2012 at 2 o’clock,  with Rev. James D. Hankey, pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Burnham Hollow Cemetery, Town of Arkwright.  To post condolences go to www.rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com.
