Obituary Notice – Ann Gizowski (Updated)

GizowskiADUNKIRK:  Ann Gizowski, 92, a resident of the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab Center, Dunkirk, formerly of Forestville, died Thursday, November 21st, 2019 at her residence.  Mrs. Gizowski was born in Bradford, PA on February 8, 1927, the daughter of the late Louis and Ruth E. (Grant) Rounds.

She attended Forestville High School and worked as a Nurse’s Aide for the former Chautauqua County Home Dunkirk.  Mrs. Gizowski previously worked for many years for the former A&P in Dunkirk as a Meat Cutter.  She and her late husband, Stanley, operated a Dairy Farm in Arkwright from 1959-1986 and she also worked for the NYS Thruway Authority as a Toll Collector in Ripley. Mrs. Gizowski was a member of Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Rose of Lima Church, Forestville and she loved sewing and building doll houses, doing jigsaw puzzles, coloring & paint by number.  Mrs. Gizowski donated her body to the University of Buffalo’s Anatomical Gift Program.

Survivors include two daughters, Veronica “Dolly” (David) Curll, of Florida; Diantha (Warren) Wolfe, of Forestville; two sons Stanley (Judy) Gizowski, Jr., and Alex (Carol) Gizowski, both of Forestville; two sisters, Betty Crowell, of Florida; Lois Woodward, of Hamburg; and a brother, Daniel (Penny) Hardy, of Dunkirk.  Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her stepfather Merle Hardy, who raised her, her husband Stanley Gizowski, Sr., whom she married on November 20, 1943 and who died June 16, 1992, by two sisters Elma Gould and Helen Bates and two brothers Kenneth & Lawrence Hardy.

There will be no visitation observed.  A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday morning, February 8, 2020 at 10 o’clock from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Center Street, Forestville, with Rev. James Walter, officiating.  Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Sheridan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made either to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Forestville Fire Dept.
