FORESTVILLE: Marvin D. Cummings, Sr., 80, of Center Street, Forestville, a lifelong resident, died Thursday, December 6th, 2018, at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Dunkirk, on July 1, 1938, the son of the late Kenneth and Emma (Payne) Cummings.
Mr. Cummings was a graduate and proud alumnus of Forestville Central School, Class of 1956. He worked as a Supervisor for the New York State DOT, Collins, for 39 years and also worked for the former Repp’s Marina, Silver Creek.
Mr. Cummings enjoyed working with youth in the community in sports, especially Little League Baseball. He was a Civil War re-enactor for 25 years, presenting many living histories and marching in parades. Mr. Cummings was an avid bowler, enjoyed camping, woodworking and being involved with his family at sporting events.
Survivors include four sons Mike (Wendy) Cummings, of Mayville; Tim (Laura) Cummings, of Dewittville; Scott (Norma) Cummings, of Mayville; Marvin D. (Vicki) Cummings, Jr., of Silver Creek; two daughters, Sue (John) Edler, of Versailles; Cathy (Keith) VanVlack, of Forestville; two brothers, Robert (Joan) Cummings, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Daniel Cummings, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and a sister, Grace (Gerald) Franklin, of Valrico, FL. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his childhood sweetheart Christine (Gruber) Cummings, whom he married on October 4, 1958 in the Forestville United Methodist Church and who died May 4, 2011, by a brother Arthur Cummings and a sister Edna Franklin.
Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Sunday from 4-7 PM and on Monday morning from 10-11 AM, from where Funeral Services will follow at 11 o’clock, with Rev. Mark Parsons, pastor of both Mayville & Dewittville United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment will follow in Forestville Cemetery.
