SHERIDAN: Viola “Chickie” I. Richir, 79, of Newell Road, Town of Sheridan, passed away Thursday, May 7th, 2015, surrounded by family following a brief illness. She was born in the Town of Sheridan, on October 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Earl and Viola (Wilkins) Stevens. At one time she worked for the former VanRaalte Co. of Dunkirk as a seamstress.
Mrs. Richir was a member of Fredonia Beaver Club, past member of the former St. John Bosco RC Church, Sheridan, and a current member of Sheridan Fire Dept, Ladies Auxiliary, since Feb. 1962. She also enjoyed puzzle books, doing latch hook rugs and spending time with her dog Roxie.
Survivors include her husband of over 60 years, Joseph L. Richir, Sr. of Sheridan, whom she married July 31, 1954, in St. Joseph RC Church, Fredonia, two daughters, Diane (Thomas) Neal, of Silver Creek, LuAnn Ellis, of Fredonia, two sons Joseph L. (Roseanne) Richir, Jr, of Cape Coral, FL and Scott K. (Gina) Richir, of Fredonia. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 6 sisters Katherine Wroblewski, Marian Fancher, Ada Levandoski, Corabel Jasinski, Evelyn Zufelt, Wilma Cambria and by 6 brothers Horace, Lyman, Hiram, Edmund, Harold and Earl Stevens.
Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, from where a Catholic Burial Service will be held Monday morning at 10 o’clock, with Rev. Walter Werbicki, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Sheridan.
