CHERRY CREEK: Helen D. Crowell, 92, of Farrington Hollow Road, Cherry Creek, died Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing, Greenhurst, NY. She was born in Silver Creek on August 11, 1922, the daughter of the late Nelson A. and Mable (Wright) Dye.
Mrs. Crowell was a graduate of the former South Dayton High School, Class of 1940 and was Co-Owner of the family farm, Cherry Creek. Mrs. Crowell was a member of the South Dayton Free Methodist Church, where at one time she was Secretary of the Sunday School, was a member of the Coachmen Vagabond #66 and at one time was a leader of the 4-H Saddle Club. Mrs. Crowell was a huge supporter of Pine Valley Central School & Roberts Wesleyan College sports, enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school activities & sporting events and loved driving tractor, mowing lawn, traveling and camping. Her grandchildren & great grandchildren meant everything to her.
Survivors include her husband Norton F. Crowell, of Cherry Creek, whom she married 73 years ago on Sept. 3, 1941, at her sister’s home in South Dayton, four sons David N. (Kathy) Crowell, of Clymer, Douglas D. (Jan) Crowell, of Cherry Creek, Paul N. (Elaine) Crowell, of Wake Forest, NC, Keith V. (Barb) Crowell, of Cherry Creek, sister-in-law Phyllis Paul of Fredonia, 7 grandchildren, Matthew (T.J.) Crowell, Erica McClenny, Jory (Laura) Crowell, Jennifer (James) Cave, Amanda (Joseph) Stellrecht, David M. Crumb, Kimberly A. Gens, 2 step grandchildren Julie (David) Morton & Tara (Kevin) Hoitink, 9 great grandchildren, Morgan McClenny, Brody, Brennan & Bailey Cave, Samuel & Evelyn Crowell and Jackson, Adalyn & Avery Stellrecht. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews and many great nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother Ralph J. Dye and a sister Huldah D. Hooker.
Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from the South Dayton Free Methodist Church, 327 Pine Street, South Dayton, with Pastor Matt Wittenbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Villenova Cemetery.

Keith, Doug, Norton and Crowell family, sorry for you loss, I only met Helen in person a couple times. Helen was one of the people you run across in life that you will always remember. When ever I called the farm I hoped Helen would answer, she was great to talk with, and never was grumpy even if the tractors were broke down. rest in peace
