Obituary Notice- James W. Dix

DixJSILVER CREEK:  James W. Dix, 60, of Hanover Road, Silver Creek, died Friday, August 8th, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Silver Creek on July 15, 1954, the son of Lena (Meadows) Dix, of Forestville and the late Norman E. Dix.  He was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1972, attended SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Fredonia and graduated from JCC in Dec. 1999 with an Associates Degree in Business Administration with honors.

Mr. Dix worked as a mechanic for the former Silver Creek Processing Corp., former Kraft Foods, Cliffstar Corporation and as a service manager for the former Norm Dix Co., Forestville, where he rebuilt a Chisholm Ryder Grape Harvester.  He worked for the United States Post Office for 20 years, starting in Dunkirk, then became Postmaster in Ellicottville and retired as Postmaster in Mayville in 2009.  He was a member of Blessed Mary Angela RC Parish- St. Hyacinth’s Church, Dunkirk, a member of the Rotary Club in Ellicottville, where he was Vice President, implemented the Adopt a Highway Program and helped found the Rotary Interact at Ellicottville High School.  Mr. Dix enjoyed playing sports, golf, scuba diving and loved to travel, he had visited 46 of the 50 states.

Surviving besides his mother is his wife Rebecca (Pawlak) Dix of Silver Creek, whom he married September 14, 1996, they were married at St. Hyacinth’s RC Church, Dunkirk, a son, Justin (Amanda) Dix, of Forestville, a daughter, JoLena (Ben) Downing, IV, of Temple, GA, a sister, Suzanne (Ron) Kaliko, of Hawaii,  a brother, Robert (Lynette) Dix, of Portland and a sister Jennifer (Jim) Cruver, of Amherst. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren Everett & Madison Dix, Ben Downing, V. and several nieces & nephews.  Besides his father he was predeceased by his nephew & godson Daniel Dix.

Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, from where Prayer Services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Mary Angela RC Parish- St. Hyacinth’s Church, Dunkirk, at 10 o’clock, with Rev. Matt M. Nycz, officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery, Dunkirk.
