Obituary Notice- Norman E. Dix

DixNFORESTVILLE:  Norman E. Dix, 86, of Dennison Road, Forestville, died Tuesday, March 11th, 2014 at TLC/HN-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following a brief illness.  He was born in the Town of Hanover on June 9, 1927, the son of the late James and Gertrude (Lake) Dix.

Mr. Dix was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1944.  He started his career working at his parents store in Smith Mills, then managed the former Silver Creek Preserving for 28 years, was a Dairy & Grape Farmer for approximately 10 years, worked for the former Chisolm/Ryder, selling grape harvesters, then started his own business- Norm Dix Co., Forestville, selling grape harvester parts, for 27 years.  Mr. Dix was a Trustee of the Forestville Pioneer Cemetery for over 40 years and was an exempt member of the Forestville Fire Department.  He enjoyed playing baseball and occasional trips to the Casinos.

Survivors include his wife Lena (Meadows) Dix, of Forestville, whom he married November 17, 1951, in the Forestville United Methodist Church, two daughters, Suzanne (Ron) Kaliko, of Hawaii, Jennifer (Jim) Cruver, of Amherst and two sons James (Rebecca) Dix, of Silver Creek & Robert (Lynette) Dix, of Portland.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, special niece Sandra Dix along with several other nieces & nephews.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by 2 brothers Donald & David Dix, by 2 sisters Amelia Smith & Bessie Lee and by a grandson Daniel Dix.

Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, from where Funeral Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock, with Rev. William Leslie officiating.  Interment will follow in Pioneer Cemetery, Forestville.

    so sorry to hear of a wonderful families loss !!! was SO blessed to grow up in such an amazing lil town with SO many awesome people and the Dix family is right at the top of the list !!! … may our God bless you all at this time … much love always, kevin

    Lena, Jennifer and family,
    I was so sad to hear of Norms passing. I have such fond memories being at your house when I was younger!!
    He was always soo happy to see me!! His friendly smile will never be forgotten. I always loved being around your family!
