Avon Park, FL:  James Parsons Rider, 90, of Avon Park, FL, passed away Tuesday, August 27th, 2024 at AdventHealth Hospital, Sebring FL.  He was born in the Village of Forestville, NY on February 24, 1934, the son of the late Robert Delos and Daphne Ann (Dye) Rider, II.

Jim grew up in the Village of Cherry Creek and married Elaine Cauthen in 1955.  He served in the U.S. Army, while stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  After his discharge, he moved to Georgia, working in the banking industry.  They had two children, Merry Lou & Robert Delos Rider, III.  They moved to Panama City, FL, but the marriage ended in divorce.  Later, Jim met Annette Morris, who became his wife on October 27, 1971.

Jim loved everything about cars, and could tell you the year, make and model of most cars.  He traded cars frequently and always took great care of each of them.  He also loved airplanes and went to ground school to get his pilot’s license, but never received in-flight training.  Taking night classes, Jim received a law degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law, but never practiced.  His interest in the law led him to become a member of the Florida Sheriff’s Association and a proud member of the NRA.  Leaving Panama City, Jim and Annette retired to Avon Park, Florida in 2005.

Survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Annette (Morris) Rider of Avon Park, FL, a daughter, Merry (Howard) Toole, of Rome, GA; a son, Robert D. (Suzanne) Rider, III of Cumming, GA, and a brother, David (Sally) Rider, of Dunkirk, NY & Avon Park, FL.  Also surviving are six grandchildren; Davis Rider, Nelson & Barry Toole, and Olivia, Grace & Brendan Turner.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann (Albert) May, of Mt. Rose, MI

There will be no service observed at this time.  Donations may be made to the Florida Sheriff’s Association.

Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.  To post condolences or memories go to www.rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com
