Obituary Notice – Patricia A. Szumigala

FREDONIA:  Patricia A. Szumigala, 78, of South Roberts Road, Fredonia, passed away Friday, December 15th, 2023 at her residence, with her family by her side.  She was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on May 12, 1945, the daughter of the late John and Viola (Tomaszewski) Gizowski.

  Patricia received her LPN from BOCES and was also licensed in Florida. She graduated from NTTS with a Class A and became an over the road truck driver.  Patricia owned and operated a family dairy farm on Rt. 83 in South Dayton for 8 years and retired from truck driving after 20 years to become a full time grandmother.  She attended St. Joseph RC Church, Fredonia.  Patricia enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

  Survivors include her husband Adrian S. Szumigala of Fredonia, whom she married on July 2, 1966, at the former St. John Bosco RC Church, Sheridan, three daughters, Tammie (Rick) Walker, of Forestville; Candie (Jim) Makuch, of Forestville;

Patricia Richter, of Rochester; three sons Greg (Wendy) Irish, of Brocton; Adrian J. (Lisa) Szumigala, of Forestville; and Jake (Theona) Szumigala, of Sheridan.  Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother John “JJ” Gizowski.

  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  The family suggests memorials may be made either to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750 or to Sheridan Fire Department, PO Box 122, Sheridan, NY 14135.

    To All the Szumigala Family, I am so sorry about the passing of your wife/mom/mother-in-law/grandma. Please know that you all will be in my prayers during this difficult time and that God’s healing hands will be on your heart to help you through. The time that I spent with your family she was a very caring, loving and welcoming person to me. I know she will be greatly missed by all of you.
