Obituary Notice – Jeanine I. Snyder

SnyderJLAONA:  Jeanine I. Snyder, 91, of Wilson Road, Laona died Saturday, February 29th, 2020 at the WCA Home Assisted Living Facility, Fredonia, following a short illness with cancer.  She was born in Jamestown, NY on January 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Wesley D. and Violet (Sweet) Langworthy.

Mrs. Snyder was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1946 and was a graduate of the former Roberts Beauty School in Buffalo, in 1947.

Mrs. Snyder & Mae Hemphill co-owned the former Jeanne-Mae Beauty Shop on Main Street in Forestville from 1947-1948, then relocated to Water Street in Forestville, opening her own shop, Jeanine’s Beauty Shop. She remained there for 6 years and then moved to Laona in 1954 and continued there until 2011, retiring around the age of 82.

Mrs. Snyder was a devoted and active member of Laona United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the UMW for many years, was a choir member, held several offices and worked on many committees.  In 1996, she performed “Generation Rag” in the Fredonia Opera House with the “Energizers”.  Mrs. Snyder had a love for music & dance and appreciated her church family very much.  She will be sadly missed by her family & friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorene (Stefan) Mayr, of Sheridan; Bonnie Brinson, of Bradenton, FL; a sister, Geraldine Piede, of Greensboro, NC; and a brother, Richard (Mary) Langworthy, of Sheridan.  Also surviving are two grandchildren Stefanie Jo (Michael Deming) Mayr of Canisteo, NY & Jason Kenneth (Christy) Mayr of Decatur, GA, two great grandchildren Violet & Willa Mayr and several nieces & nephews.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of almost 58 years, Kenneth L. Snyder, whom she married in Silver Creek on August 14, 1948 and who died July 2, 2006, son-in-law Dan Brinson who died in April 2014 and brother-in-law Louis Piede who died March 5, 2009.

Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 5-7 PM.  Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, at 11 o’clock from the Laona United Methodist Church, 9636 Wilson Road, Fredonia, with Rev. Michael Spell, pastor officiating.  Interment will follow in Laona Cemetery, Town of Pomfret.
