Van Vlack, 89, of Silver Creek, died Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Chautauqua Nursing &amp; Rehab, Dunkirk, following a short illness. He was born in Irving on May 18, 1937, the son of the late Daniel and Clara (Christ) Van Vlack.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; Gary attended Silver Creek High School and the former Dunkirk Industrial School. He worked as an over-the-road Truck Driver for the former Dunkirk Ice Cream and retired from the former Fieldbrook Farms. Inc, Dunkirk after over 30 years of service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; He served in the Navy during 1954 \u2013 1958 and was a former member of Tri-County Country Club, Forestville and Silver Creek Hook &amp; Ladder. Gary was a current member of St. Alban&#8217;s Episcopal Church, Silver Creek where he served on the Vestry for many years. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid Buffalo Bills &amp; Sabres fan and a huge NY Yankees fan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; Survivors include wife of 62 years, Sharon (Luce) Van Vlack of Silver Creek, whom he married on October 26, 1963 in Cumberland, MD, a daughter Debbie Jean Michalak, of Silver Creek, two sons Phillip (Dawn) Van Vlack, of Dunkirk, Keith (Cathy) Van Vlack, of Forestville, a sister Sharon Nathan, of Sun City, FL, and a brother Dale Van Vlack, of Silver Creek. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Katlyn (Jordan) Reynolds, Jeffrey (Emily) Van Vlack, Allison Van Vlack, Jenna Michalak, Ryan Michalak, two great grandchildren; Wyatt &amp; Cheyenne and several nieces &amp; nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Sandra Phillips and a sister-in-law Judy Van Vlack.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; Friends are welcome to call at Riles &amp; Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Thursday from 7-9 PM from where funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o&#8217;clock. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Town of Hanover.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; The family suggests memorials may be made either to Silver Creek Fire Department, PO Box 70, Silver Creek, NY 14136, or to the Silver Creek Emergency &amp; Rescue Squad, 162 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, NY 14136.
