{"id":1561,"date":"2018-07-21T08:46:36","date_gmt":"2018-07-21T12:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/?p=1561"},"modified":"2018-07-21T08:46:36","modified_gmt":"2018-07-21T12:46:36","slug":"obituary-notice-william-carson-bie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/?p=1561","title":{"rendered":"Obituary Notice &#8211; William Carson Bie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/BieWObit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1562\" alt=\"BieWObit\" src=\"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/BieWObit-230x300.jpg\" width=\"91\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/BieWObit-230x300.jpg 230w, https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/BieWObit.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 91px) 100vw, 91px\" \/><\/a>Boyce, VA:\u00a0 William Carson Bie, 85, of Boyce, VA, died Sunday, July 15th, 2018 of an apparent heart attack, at Commonwealth Senior Living, Front Royal, VA.\u00a0 He lived on his beloved farm for almost 50 years, until the end of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bie was born in Silver Creek, on August 28, 1932, the son of the late Norman Roy and Evelyn Mae (Ehmke) Bie.\u00a0 He attended Alfred College of Agriculture and Technology and afterwards joined the Navy, where he served during the Korean Conflict.<\/p>\n<p>While in the Navy, he flew Grumman S2F Trackers, known as a &#8220;Stoof&#8221;, from aircraft carriers, but spent most of that time in the Atlantic with one cruise in the Mediterranean.\u00a0 He flew off of the USS Monterey, USS Valley Forge and the USS Antietam.\u00a0 Mr. Bie set two records while in the Navy: he never had an &#8220;earned&#8221; wave-off for landing on a carrier and had 24 take-offs and landings in one day.<\/p>\n<p>After his release from the Navy in January 1957, he remained in the reserves for a time and received training on flying jets, his dream.
