{"id":1497,"date":"2018-03-06T17:18:47","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T22:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/?p=1497"},"modified":"2018-03-06T17:18:47","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T22:18:47","slug":"obituary-notice-william-john-gerrity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/?p=1497","title":{"rendered":"Obituary Notice &#8211; William John Gerrity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/GerrityW.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1498\" alt=\"GerrityW\" src=\"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/GerrityW-277x300.jpg\" width=\"121\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/GerrityW-277x300.jpg 277w, https:\/\/rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/GerrityW.jpg 884w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 121px) 100vw, 121px\" \/><\/a>SILVER CREEK:\u00a0 William John Gerrity, 77, of Pennsylvania Ave., Silver Creek, died suddenly, Monday, March 5th, 2018 at TLC\/HN-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving.\u00a0 He was born in Scranton, PA on January 25, 1941, the son of the late William Joseph and Eleanor (Melvin) Gerrity.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gerrity was a graduate of Lake Shore Central School and served in the U.S. Navy.\u00a0 He worked as a Systems Analyst for the former Grumman Aerospace, Bethpage, Long Island, for 20 years.\u00a0 Mr. Gerrity at one time, worked for NASA on some of the Apollo Missions, was a co-founder of the former Froggernet, in Silver Creek and was an ordained minister.<\/p>\n<p>He was a former longtime Boy Scout Leader, a former member of Kiwanis and a member of Walthers Model Railroading Club.\u00a0 Mr. Gerrity enjoyed photography, computers, cooking, trains &amp; railroads, archery, outdoor recreation, engineering as was an avid music enthusiast.\u00a0 He was a perpetual learner.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include a daughter, Grace (Gary Hemphill) Gerrity, of Forestville; two sons William (Donna) Gerrity, of East Patchogue, NY; Patrick Gerrity, of Atlanta, GA;\u00a0 and two sisters, Mary Ellen (Robert) Gabor, of Buffalo; Kathy (Jim) Chalupka, of Orchard Park.\u00a0 Also surviving is 1 grandson Garrison Hemphill.\u00a0 Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Anne N. (Sack) Gerrity, whom he married on July 3, 1965, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek and who died March 11, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Friends are welcome to call at Riles &amp; Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Thursday from 3-6 PM, from where a Celebration of Life will follow 6 o&#8217;clock, with Rev. James Witherington, Jr. officiating.\u00a0 Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt.
