Obituary Notice – Terry L. Bentley

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

BentleyTFREDONIA:  Terry L. Bentley, was born March 29, 1954, to the late Jason and Myrtle (Thomas) Bennett, in Corry, PA.  She married her best friend and love of her life, Mark, on September 9, 1989.  Terry went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015, after battling pancreatic and liver cancer.

She was a graduate of Fredonia High School, Class of 1972 and Erie Business Center in 1974 with an Associates Degree.  After having worked for 38 years (22 years at Welch’s in Westfield and 16 years at Carriage House in Fredonia), she thoroughly enjoyed her non-working life.  She often commented that it took her 38 years of working to figure out that not working was the greatest!  If only her and Mark could have known retirement joy together!  Maybe they did not grow old together, but they grew up together as Terry really did marry the “boy next door!”

Terry was an active member of the Laona United Methodist Church and loved her church family.  She also enjoyed golfing, camping and motorcycling with her husband.  Each May, they traveled to a small church in Tionesta, PA to be blessed for the riding season along with hundreds of other motorcyclists.  Most vacations were spent at their camp, “Camp Little Running Water”, which was their piece of Heaven on earth!  Each June for 10 years, she was team captain for one of the teams supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event held at SUNY Fredonia.  Terry loved all living animals but especially her house cats and barn cats-they were her joy!

Surviving besides her husband are sister-in-laws Sue (Bob) Barresi, Cheryl (Chris) Brunecz, former sister-in-laws Jean Bennett & Frances (Ron) Stahley, brother-in-law Steve (Deb) Bentley, nephews Jason F. Bennett, Jason J. (Amy) Bennett, Mike Barresi, Matt Bentley, Jake, Nick & Timmy Brunecz, nieces Laurie Bennett, Tracy Tyma, Kathy Ramey and Sarah Barresi, 2 great nieces Julia & Emma Bennett and several cousins.  She was also blessed with many, many wonderful friends whom she loved dearly.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her 2 brothers Gary “Bull Ram” & Don Bennett, her father-in-law Richard Bentley and mother-in-law Irene Bentley.

Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.  Memorial Services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from the Laona United Methodist Church, 9636 Wilson Road, Fredonia, with Pastor Mike Spell, officiating.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Laona Cemetery, Fredonia.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Laona United Methodist Church, 9636 Wilson Road, Fredonia, NY 14063 or the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Northern Chautauqua County, particularly her team, Terry’s Troopers, in care of Emily Marciniak, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy, Amherst, NY 14228 or the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048.  To post condolences go to www.rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com.

Terry was a beautiful woman inside and out. I worked with her at Welch’s and will never forget her smile and the way she laughed. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Eleanor and I want to extend our condolences to Mark and the extended family. I knew Terry from when we both worked at Welch’s in Westfield in the ’80s & ’90s. I never had the pleasure to work with Terry since we were in separate departments, but I would occasionally chat with her in the hallway, cafeteria, or a WFEA event. She struck me as a kind, compassionate, and upbeat person who always had a smile on her face and something pleasant to say. I will cherish those brief conversations with her as they always left me with a good feeling. Terry will be greatly missed by a lot of people.

    My dear Sweet Sister-in-Christ, Terry,

My heart is breaking right now because I miss you so much! But it is with mixed emotion because I am also rejoicing and am comforted knowing that you are now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You had the same twinkle in your eye the last day I saw you as you did the day I first met you many years ago. You had no fear in your heart because Jesus was there with you. I will always remember, Terry, how much you encouraged me spiritually, as I continue on this journey called life knowing I will see you again! XOXO

Those things which ye both learned and received and heard and seen in me do: and the peace of God shall be with you. Philippians 4:9

To Mark & family . . . There are so many words that could be used
to describe Terry, but “special” comes to mind. My thoughts
are with you in this time of sorrow.
    Deepest Sympathy, Penny Haight

I met Terry in 1972 when we worked at Welch’s in the same department. It was a privilege and honor to know her and to have her as a friend for all those years. I enjoyed walking for Terry’s Troopers each year when the team was formed and spending time with Terry on those Saturdays at the SUNY Fredonia track. Terry will always hold a special friend place in my heart.
