ASHEVILLE, NC:  Florence B. Butcher, 98, of Asheville, North Carolina, died Tuesday, October 31st, 2017.  She was born in Conewango, NY, on March 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Raymond and Myrtie (Wright) Bridenbaker.

She was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1939.  Mrs. Butcher worked as a Toll Collector for the New York State Thruway Authority, was a member of the former Grapevine Rebekah Lodge #270, Forestville, a member of the Forestville United Methodist Church and a CSEA Retiree.

Survivors include 2 daughters Marcia (Mark Hubert) Gallineaux of Olean, Marlene (Dr. Gary) Whitaker of Asheville, NC and 1 sister Ethel Frangione of Jamestown.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren and several nieces & nephews.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Donald J. Butcher, whom she married June 2, 1939 and who died April 21, 2004, by three sisters Hester Beckman, Autumn Crandall, Helen Haggmark and two brothers George & Edward Bridenbaker.

There will be no visitation observed.  Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11 o’clock in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Center.  A picnic will follow at the graveside.

The family suggests memorials may be made either to the Forestville United Methodist Church, 3 Park Street, Forestville, NY 14062 or to J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, PO Box 492, Forestville, NY 14062.  Local arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.  To post condolences go to

    I worked with Flo at the Thruway and was saddened to hear of her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and friends.
