SHERIDStrawserJAN:  James R. Strawser, 67, of W. Sheridan Road, Dunkirk, passed away Saturday, September 23rd, 2017, at his residence.  He was born in Dunkirk on July 10, 1950, the son of the late Joseph F. and Jeanne (Sprissler) Strawser, Jr.

Mr. Strawser was a graduate of Fredonia High School.  He worked as a Deputy Highway Superintendent for the Town of Sheridan, for 26 years, retiring in August 2012. Mr. Strawser also owned & operated Shady Willow Grape Farm in the Town of Sheridan.  He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dunkirk and was a member of the Grape Growers Co-op of Westfield.  Mr. Strawser enjoyed farming, growing grapes and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn E. (Brown) Strawser, of Sheridan, whom he married in 1983, a son, Matthew J. (Kathryn M.) Strawser, of Orchard Park; a daughter, Laura (James) Blasdell, of Forestville; a brother Roger (Mary) Strawser, of Dunkirk, three sisters, Donna (John M.) Shephard, of Fredonia; KathyJo (John) Hryvniak, of Spencerport; and Kelly (Joseph) Osborne, of Panama.  Also surviving are 3 grandchildren Owen Strawser, Adaline & Aiden Blasdell and several nieces & nephews.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by an uncle Donald Strawser.

Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM, from where Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, with Rev. Michael Pollock, pastor of Gage Chapel Community Church, Smith Mills, officiating.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Sheridan Center Cemetery.

    Deepest condolences to all the Strawser family. While we haven’t kept too much in touch, I’ve known most all of you since my earliest childhood, and have so many fond memories of the work, the meals and the fun at Shady Willow. Godspeed and rest in peace, Jimmy.
