DUNKIRK: John Kahabka, 75, of Wildwood Drive, Dunkirk, died Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Silver Creek, on August 21, 1941, the son of the late Francis C. Kahabka and Dawn (Rider) Kahabka Swanson.
He was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1961 and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Mr. Kahabka was a Bus Driver for Forestville Central School, for 10 years, at one time owned & operated a Dairy Farm on Creek Road, Forestville and was a Crane operator & Mechanic for Benchley Construction, Silver Creek. He was a member of Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church Fredonia, a member of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville and Forest Lodge F&AM, Fredonia. Mr. Kahabka enjoyed traveling, going to tractor pulls & spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Judith A. (Baird) Bull Kahabka, of Dunkirk, whom he married on November 23, 1991, a son, Thomas Kahabka, of South Dayton; two daughters, Audrey (Paul) Giambrone, of Hamlet; Tanya Lack, of Fredonia; a step son, Robert (Stephanie) Baird, of Falconer; a step daughter, Kim (John) Granata, of Silver Creek and a brother, Clayton (Sue) Kahabka, of Brown City, MI. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Phillip Kahabka and a step son Jeffrey Bull.
Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Wednesday from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Memorial Services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o’clock from Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, 39 Matteson Street, Fredonia, with Pastor Jim LaBarr and Pastor Nate Lesher officiating. Military Services will follow and be conducted by members of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville.
